For a theoretical course like this, you can only really get to grips with the ideas and techniques by using them to solve problems. An examples sheet will be issued for each section of the course and further examples can be found in the recommended textbooks.
Examples classes will be held every other Tuesday at 4pm, starting on the 6th February. These will be in the ``workshop corner'' of the departmental library. They will be similar to the Maths and Dynamics Workshops last semester, except that you will get the examples sheets before the classes. You should start to work on the current sheet before each class, and should bring any questions you may have to the class. If you need further help, I shall be in my room (6.10) at 4pm on the alternating Tuesdays. I can also be contacted by email at mike.birse@man.ac.uk.
Links to HTML versions of the examples sheets for this course and the 1999 exam paper are provided below. These include links to hints or answers to selected questions; do not follow one of these links until you have attempted the question on your own.
