Velocity and Acceleration

In this very simple simulation we can study the relation between acceleration and velocity for a particle moving in a circle. With the slider you can select velocities. Do you undertand the relation between acceleration and velocity? Why doesn't the acceleration change direction when $\vec v$ does?
